Amy’s Beautiful Traditional Open House Tour

This is my sister Amy’s beautiful traditional home.  I have wanted to share her fabulous design talents with you since I started my blog, but wouldn’t you know it, it took her putting her house up for sale for me to actually give you a traditional “Open House” tour.  The great news?  You can buy it!

The entry is very open.  Straight ahead is a great staircase and is open to the living room to your right.

The entry is adorned with a huge black and white gallery wall.

The entire main floor is covered in a medium tone hardwood that flows into the living room in the front of the home.

Cream and Natural Living Room with Pink Accents

A set of two marbled columns define the space between the living and dining rooms.  We have played a lot of games in this dining room, especially after Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner.

If the family room and kitchen is the heart of the home, this home has a great heart!  The family room and kitchen are combined into one giant space, perfect for entertaining or making dinner while kids work on homework at the bar.

Charcoal and Cream Great Room

Bright and airy, this family room floor is all wood with an area rug over top.  Two full sofas and a couple of accent chairs fill the space around the fireplace and flat screen.

When the home was purchased, the kitchen was a huge selling point based on it’s size.  The cabinets were natural maple and looked a bit drab so my sister hired a painter to spray them all a vintage white.  It is so bright and fresh and yet classic with the dark Pottery Barn hardware.

Six black suspended bar stools are an awesome asset to this space.  All the kids and their friends and cousins can sit up at the bar for a snack or to do a craft on this enormous peninsula.

Alright, that was the main floor.  I’ll share the second floor in a later post, so stay tuned!

  • LOVE the black suspended bar stools what a great idea!

    • They make it so easy to sweep and clean under them. The entire kitchen was originally maple. She decided to paint the cabinets vintage white but to keep clean up easy on the bar stools and add contrast she chose black for the stools, and you are right, they look fab.

  • Your sister’s home is lovely. Great floors and I especially like the photo wall and all the seating in the large great room.

    • Elizabeth, thanks for going on the house tour! She added the wood floor when she purchased the house, it totally transformed it from the gray ceramic tile and carpet that used to cover the floor.

  • Fantastic home!!

  • I would like to know the name of the paint she used–it looks yellowish. Very pretty. You never see attached chairs at the island, like she has, neat idea.

  • Hi, I love the layout of the house, could you tell me who the builder was?

    • My sister bought the house from an owner/builder so I’m not sure. It was a custom home.

  • looking good

  • nice post
