Burlap & Denim

Last week was the Las Vegas Design Center’s Winter Market for 2014.

It is a huge show with over 32 floors of home furnishings and it happens twice a year in Las Vegas, NV.  It brings furniture manufactures together with interior designers and retail stores.  My husband and I jumped int he car for the short 5 hour drive, and believe me, with out the kids it flew by.  We spent two full days walking all the floors looking for the best in design.  Today I am excited to share the 9 new lighting trends that I saw for 2014.

1. Metal Chandelier Shades

I saw this trend over and over and over.  Some were a thin fine metal mesh like this barrel shade.   It felt refined and formal.

Another was this ball chain style.  These chains were hung individually around an oval form.  Very cool and industrial.

 These were a rustic shabby version.  Again with the fine metal mesh in a cylinder barrel shape.

 2. Hanging Industrial Pendants

While these might not be a new design element, they were everywhere.  I loved these antique ones.  Each one was large enough to serve as a single light over a dining table or bar.

 3. Mid Century Spider

This antiqued brass spider-esque light  was completely movable.  I love the not to

mid century modern with a touch of whimsy.  I believe I could get a lot of crafting done with all this task lighting!

4.  Beaded Beauties

I absolutely loved these adorable beaded chandys.  This one is perfect with it’s matte “Coke Bottle” colored beads.  The rustic twine and imperfect beads are a fun juxtaposition to the classic crystal chandelier.  Perfect for a feminine space like a teen’s bedroom or a girl’s bathroom.

 5. Clustered Glass

These clusetered glass chandeliers were all large and medium, but clustered together they took my breath away.  Each one was ornate glass with metal filigree accents.  They had a great middle eastern or Indian aura. 

 6. Shabby Chateau

You have heard of Shabby Chic, but I’m calling this trend Shabby Chateau.  I define it as a fabulous piece that looks like it came from a great chateau but devoid of the uppity gaudy stuffiness that you might think of when the word Chateau is thrown around.  This eight light floral wall sconce could have come from a French antique market.  I love it!   It would have been perfect for my French Cottage house.  Notice the wall hanging to the right?

Definitely Shabby Chateau.

7. Exposed Edison Light Bulbs

Do you know what I DIDN’T see at the show?  CFLs, Halogens, or LEDs.  Nope.  All incandescents!  Any designer that is worth the weight in…well light bulbs, knows that incandescents are where it is at (despite our ridiculous newly implemented laws).  The Edison bulb is still going strong and these are two great samples that are proud of their bulbs, “look ma, no shade!”   If you want that warm cozy glow that designer show rooms have, the old fashioned bulb or fancier Edison bulb is how you achieve it.
