Home Decor Trends 2014 from the Winter Market

At the Las Vegas Market I filtered through thousands of chachkies and accessories that will be coming to a store near you soon.  Here are a few of the items that I feel will be big home decor trends 2014.

 Archaeology Accessories

Over a decade ago my husband and I were able to visit the amazing Cairo Museum.  When we were there I was amazed at the low tech displays and cases holding the Egyptian antiquities.  Most did not have moisture control, alarms or the like.  When I found this display table, I was a amazed at how similar it was to those I’d seen years earlier.  The simple wood and glass case could hold just about anything in your house, can you imagine it as a sofa back table?  Or how about in an entry?  I LOVE it!  {This table is a bit more than an accessory, but I had to include it in this post.}

Museum Style Display Case

Adding to the museum feel are these dinosaur statues.  I adored these little T-Rex skeleton statues.

The trend continued at another shop with this silver painted Tyrannosaurus Rex.

 Archeologist Dinosaur Bones Sculpture

Then there was this giant dinosaur skull.  I’d love to add this to my home decor collection.

This dinosaur or ostrich skeleton is kept fun and fresh with the lime green  chevron background.  The aged gold frame is the perfect accent.  Would you ever put a dinosaur bone statue in your home?  Or do you think I’m crazy for loving this new trend?

Antlers

While antlers have been around for a while, I wanted to share these two new takes on the antler accessory.   This pair of silver bucks look like they have been hanging in an English manor for decades.

 Cast Metal Deer Heads

How about these lucite antlers.  Stu-ning!  Especially when paired with chrome and mirror.  I love the juxtaposition of the natural shaped antlers and the modern materials.

 Embellished Cloche

This little owl dressed in an embellished cloche is too cute.  Sandblasted plants adorn the glass almost like light snowflakes.

 Sea Creatures

You know I love anything ocean or beach.  I was in awe when I saw this carved wood octopus.  In this photo it is hard to tell how large this really is.  If my memory serves me well, I’d guess it was about 4-5 feet wide and 3 feet tall.  There were several unique examples and each was hung from the ceiling almost like a chandelier.  I’ll take three please!

Over Sized watches

Looking for a new clock for your husbands nightstand?  How about on the office desk?  Maybe it is just perfect for me since my hubs loves to collect fun watches.  With a wide variety, these would look cool in a group, maybe with each one set for a different time zone.

 Giant Faux Watch Tabletop Clocks

 Unique Antiques

I’m loving these hand print blocks used to make original fabrics.  For someone that loves crafting and antiques, you know I’d make my own fabric prints with any of these that I could get my hands on.

 Angel Wings

Angel wings may not be another new element in decor but I’m sure they are here to stay.   Over sized and guilded in gold would look fantastic on a dark mushroom wall in flat paint.   And can you imagine them in your house at Christmas?  Okay, now I think I need them too!

  • Your use of the word “chachkies” in your blog albeit cute, is unfortunately misspelled. The word tchochkes is Yiddish, of Polish derivation.

    • Rosalyn, thank you for your correction. While I studied ancient and modern Hebrew for three years in college, transliterations of Yiddish wasn’t on the syllabus.
