I was browsing my most recent Pottery Barn catalog and came across the most adorable sign. It was made of wood and has the words “It’s the most wonderful time of the year” hand panted in a vintage sign style. It captivated me and I’m still not sure why, but I simply adore it. With a price tag of $169, I knew I could take this project on myself.
I started out searching the world wide web for the perfect fonts that would give me the same feel as the original. Here is what I came up with. It’s close enough for me.
I dug around in my basement till I found a great old frame that would also act as the canvas for the painting. It is an inexpensive poster frame made of wood, with a plexiglas insert and MDF backer. It’s aproximatly 22″ X 28″. Find a similar one HERE.
Then I used my Silhouette and cut out the words from the graphic up above. I used an off white vinyl I purchased from JoAnn’s. It is the Cricut brand since I couldn’t find the Silhouette (plus it was on sale for around $5). I centered the vinyl and actually loved the way it looked!
Then I pressed forward, wanting a more striking result. I brought out two paints that were in the color scheme I was going for. They were both matte wall paint from my recently finished basement. I applied them with a disposable chip brush using a mostly dry brush. Here is the dark gray with a hint of blue.
I know it isn’t even December yet, but I am excited to have this hanging in my family room! I love the colors and simplicity of this graphic project. It was simple, easy, and quick (after I found all the fonts).
If you would like to make this sign, just take the black and white graphic to a sign shop and have them cut it out of vinyl, or if you are luck enough to have a Silhouette, just upload the image and cut it out. Send me a pic of your finished Knock Off! I’d love to see yours!
