$1 Camp Craft {Magnetic Chalkboard Message Center}

This is a really fun easy AND inexpensive craft!  A Magnetic Chalkboard Message Center.  We did these at girls camp last year and they turned out really cute.  The supplies are inexpensive and you probably already have most of them on hand. Supplies craft paint Valspar (Lowes) chalkboard paint ribbon sponge brushes chalk magnets electric range covers (Dollar Store)  I searched all over for a good deal on chalkboard paint and I found it at Lowe's.  I bought the quart size and chose black.  It runs around $14 and could make at least 50 of these chalk boards.  I found these beautiful electric burner covers at the Dollar Tree.  The great thing about these burner covers is that they are magnetic!   They come in a two pack.  One is 8" and the other is 10".  The demo for this post is the smaller Read more [...]

“Soda Lighted” to wish you a Happy Birthday

 It is the start of a new year and so time to share a new small birthday gift that is perfect for teens.  In my case teenage girls from our church youth group, or Young Women.  My niece had received a soda bottle with the phrase "Soda Lighted" (instead of so delighted) as a going away present from her leaders and I thought it was adorable!  I decided to purchase a variety of fun bright sodas from a local supplier.  We have a cute toy/candy shop that has a large selection but Cost Plus World Market also has a great supply.  And before any of you worry, the one on the right is Apple Beer, a delicious apple flavored soda.   Supplies Needed: Card stock Hole Punch Ribbon or Pipe Cleaner Paper Straws Free Printable   I made a label that would fit any bottle.  I designed them in bright fun colors Read more [...]

YW & YM 2014 Theme Come Unto Christ Printables

This year our church youth group's theme is Come Unto Christ and be Perfected in Him.  I loved a talk given by my friend Stefanie where she turned the scripture into an invitation.  I tried to run with that theme when I made my bulletin board for this year. With all of the adorable chalkboard graphics out there, I decided to try my hand at one.  Honestly I figured this would be the easiest and cheapest bulletin board yet.  All I had to do was design it on the computer, save it to a thumb drive and take it to Staples.  There they could print it out on one big sheet for just $8.  Just ask for the architectural prints in black and white.   I made the graphic gray scale to add interest and since it didn't cost any extra I figured why not.  This is the graphic I created:   Download the large file to print an oversized Read more [...]

How to Host a Clothing Exchange

Have you ever been to a clothing exchange?  Aren't they awesome?  My friends and I used to trade clothes in high school and I even remember a giant clothing exchange that our dorm floor did in college!  I just had one last night for our Young Women's Youth Group.  I'm excited to give you some tips for How to Host a Clothing Exchange.  NOTE: Sorry the photos are terrible because of the rush of the activity! 1. Gather the goods.  We put an announcement in our church bulletin a about a month before we planned on having our event asking for clothes, accessories, purses, bags, scarves, shoes, craft supplies, and home decor.  By including all of these categories, it help ensure that EVERYONE would find something that worked for them.  I also emailed a few specific ladies that I thought might have clothes that the girls Read more [...]

We Need Women Who Are…

Once again I loved LDS General Conference that was on again this weekend.  One of the speakers, Elder Christofferson gave a fantastic talk on women of the world.  He talked about keeping women feminine and women of the world.  He quoted former Relief Society President Margaret Nadauld and I absolutely adored this quote.  "The world has enough women who are tough; we need women who are tender.  There are enough women who are coarse; we need women who are kind.  We have enough women of fame and fortune; we need more women of faith.  We have enough greed we need more goodness.  We have enough vanity we need more virtue.  We have enough popularity, we need more purity."  I made it into a little printable but couldn't decide which one I liked best, so I uploaded them all.  Feel free to copy, download, or pass out in a Read more [...]

DIY Leather Bracelets

Leather working has always been a hobby I've wanted to get into.  Then a few years ago I found my in.  It was time to get rid of an old leather jacket of my husbands and then shortly after that I inherited a suede jacket from my in-laws.  I decided to save both of them and repurpose them.  Once again I took on the task of "Camp Crafts" for our annual girls youth camp.  Our camp craft budget is small and this year we had 35 girls planning on coming.  So, these old jackets would become new camp DIY leather bracelets. The following are a few that I made up as examples for what the girls could make.  This colorful cuff bracelet was very simple to make.  I just stitched a design into the leather with embroidery thread.  To fasten this bracelet I stitched on a decorative bead and made a loop of threat to slip it through Read more [...]

Bleach Out T-Shirt Tutorial

Last week was our church group's annual girls camp.  For our group t-shirts we decided to do a bleach out design.  The following is my Bleach Out T-Shirt Tutorial.  {The original inspiration for this T came from THIS AWESOME POST, for ANOTHER BLEACH TUTORIAL click HERE} The coordinators of the camp (our stake) purchased these green T's and had a small Celtic knot over the right arm to go with our B.R.A.V.E. theme (Believe, Repent, Ask, Venture, Endure).  Each group (ward) was to decorate the rest of the T how ever they wish. We thought about silk screening, and after a lot of tries I suggested we go with the easiest cheapest option...Bleach!  I did a practice at home and then brought everything to the church and each girl made her own shirt on a table outside.  You'll need the following supplies AND a blow drier: A Read more [...]

Youth Group Waffle Bar Date Night

Recently our church youth group held a group date with a waffle bar.  I was lucky enough to be a part of it so I'll share how it all went down so you can recreate this really fun date night for any age.  We started with long tables covered in brown craft paper.  Then decorated the area around with some fabric pennants that I had made for another event.  Then we placed four waffle irons on the paper and all the toppings.  One of the young women wrote with a black sharpie instructions and labeled the syrups and toppings. Long tables were set up in a U shape.  We found these to work better than rounds since everyone was closer together and their dates sat right across from them.  The tables were also covered with brown craft paper and simple mason jars and flowers were added for decor.  Groups of sharpies of all colors Read more [...]

Printable Baptism Programs

This last weekend my third son Sam was baptized.  It was a very sweet and exciting day for all of us.  He couldn't wait to turn 8 and was beaming the entire day. Since this is my third son's baptism, and I served in our Primary as the secretary for a few years, I have made pleanty of baptism programs.  I thought I'd share this simple layout that you can print yourself. I started out by having three programs to a single sheet of cardstock (or paper).  I selected a simple image of Jesus and John the Baptist and fit it across the bottom.  With a brown border and blue "Californian FB" font (which you probably already have) things are clean and focused on the baptism, not the child. I printed them on my home ink jet printer on some pearl card stock that my mother in law gifted me.  I love the soft iridescent shine Read more [...]

Girl On Fire {2013 YW Bulletin Board}

While hunting around on Pinterest, I found a great site called "Better than we Deserve" where Ramona made "Girl on Fire" t-shirts for YW camp.  I loved the idea of merging pop culture (The Hunger Games books) and the gospel.  I think it grabs the girls interests and transforms it into a new way of looking at the world.  Anyway, I took Ramona's idea and turned it into our bulletin board for 2013. You probably recognize the logo in the center, it is the Young Woman torch that has been around forever.  I also found a pin on Pinterest that called the logo "The Original Girl on Fire".  Below the torch are matches or what I call fire starters.  The Young Women are on fire with the Holy Ghost and the matches are ways they can start their fire or keep it burning strong and bright.  All of the values are listed as well as a Read more [...]

I am a Mormon Printable

You may or may not know that I am a Mormon.  This weekend is a great time for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because it is our semi-annual conference   This is when we listen to our Prophet and his twelve apostles and other great leaders.  A talk that was given Saturday morning by Ann Dibb was particularly fabulous (follow THIS LINK to hear her talk).  Here is a free printable I created based on her words.  Feel free to download it and use how you'd like.  I created it to be printed as an 8X10, 8.5X11 or 5X7. {Click HERE for the high res version in light 8X10} {Click HERE for the high res version in light for 5X7 or 8.5X11} {Click HERE for the high res version in dark for 8X10} {Click HERE for the high res version in dark for 5X7 or 8.5X11} To learn more about Mormons, click Read more [...]

2012 Young Women in Excellence: Arise and Shine Forth invitation and program

It is that time again for Young Women in Excellence.  I've come up with a simple invitation and program I'm sharing here.  It all started when my friend Belinda from Belinda's Great Ideas came up with a great Arise and Shine Forth logo that I used for my invitations and program {check out her amazing talents HERE}.  Below is the invitation, laid out four to a page (Download the Publisher file HERE). My mother in law saved some paper scraps from her job at a printing press and I ran these through my printer on "draft" to save ink.  Because they are black and white, you could also run them off the copier at your ward's library. Here is the program we will be using (download the Publisher file HERE).  Because of the donated paper, I made the program two to a regular sheet of paper. The program is also going to be Read more [...]
